“Protest Song Celebration” @ Ecologistics Collaboratory: Oct. 22, 7:00 PM, Rancho el Chorro, $10

Yeah! As part of their 3-day “Deep-Ecology Collaboratory” Ecologistics have invited us to help with their celebration of “Protest Song” — and present the winners of their song-writing contest. The whole event is very much worth your attention — but if you want to get a good look at what they’re up to in a shorter time, come out to Rancho El Chorro this Saturday Night at 7:00 for the concert — just $10. See you there!

“Big Variety Night” @ Linnaea’s: this Sun., Feb. 7

We’re joining the local singer-songwriter crowd for this edition of the long-running series, hosted by SLO icon Ted Waterhouse at Linnaea Phillips’s original oasis of sanity on Garden Street. Music starts early — sometimes before 6:00. Ranchers for Peace usually close the show, 9:30 or thereabouts. But come earlier for solo sets by individual Ranchers Charles and Ray — and to catch up on the range of crafty and creative artistes on the bill. “Big Variety” — guaranteed.

No cover. 1110 Garden St, San Luis Obispo, 805-541-5888

“Art of the Protest Song”: in SLO 1/31

We’re joining some new friends from up north — and old pal Randall Lamb — for an evening of song-swapping “in the round,” with a focus on the kind of songs that have inspired social activism, in the past and here today: come on down and get your New Year’s dose of “give a damn.”

SUNDAY, JAN. 31 — 7:00 PM, Steynberg Gallery, 1531 Monterey St., SLO.

Krauss and Plant: “The Light of Christmas Day”

~~~ opening today ~~~
Taller Rancher Charles Duncan wrote the closing song (produced by T BONE BURNETT) for the new Christmas movie Love the Coopers. R4P sang the demo — but we like this version too! Check it out — and look for us back on stage in 2016 with new songs and new recordings to share. PEACE!
BENEFIT for CAPSLO: Sun., June 7, 11:00 – 3:00
This Sunday we’re making our third appearance at “An Afternoon of Epicurean Delights” on the grounds of the Chapman Estate in Shell Beach to benefit Community Action Partners of San Luis Obispo County. Dozens of the best SLO County restaurants and wineries combine for a giant outdoor feast, while bands play on two stages and puffy white clouds sail overhead. There are worse ways to spend a Sunday afternoon in June, and CAPSLO makes good use of every nickel they collect in support of “medical, educational & advocacy services for over 10,000 under-served families, women, men and youth throughout our county.”
The good times start at 11:00 AM. R4P gets underway at 2:30 on the Lawn Stage. http://www.capslo.org/
Ranching de Mayo: Gigs in May!
The taller Rancher is still not 100% recovered from his prolonged siege of laryngitis, but we’re tired of waiting for that day to come, and are therefore boldly setting forth this week for a brief flurry of shows, high on enthusiasm and low on worries — come on out to a show and see for yourself if we manage to pull it off:
— THIS FRIDAY, May 8, 8:30 PM: Luna’s Cafe, Sacramento, 1414 16th Street, (916) 441-3931, $7
— SATURDAY, May 9, 7:00 PM: PRIVATE SHOW, Sacramento (email for details; chas@ranchersforpeace.com)
— SAT., May 16, 6:00 – 10:00 PM: Benefit for HANDS in Nepal/EARTHQUAKE RELIEF; Community Center, I Street, Santa Margarita — $20; great food, music, silent auction, prayers and offerings for all those enduring hardship after the big shake. Join us, join HANDS, and join friends from all over the world in helping the good people of Nepal rebuild their lives.
—  SUN., May 31, 3:00: we’re back at St. Benedict’s Church in Los Osos for our twice postponed Benefit for “Outside Now” in support of their great ongoing programs in Nature Connection for kids and adults. Check back here soon for ticket info and further details:  http://www.outsidenow.org/events.html
